Languages and Politics

Democratic Republic of Congo: French, Swahili.
Major issues:
Violence and Brutality towards women
Raiding parties abducting women and children into slavery
Defensive measures possible?
Mission as safe haven


Ethiopia: English, Amharic.
Major issues:
Malnutrition/ Spread of disease
Drastic need of doctors (2.5 in 100,000)
Rural education/ housing
Self-destructive rural cycle, needs sustainable agriculture, alternate fuel source
Possible mission: Distribute fertilzers to offset the misuse of the land
Urban population needs clean water, sewage disposal, cleaner housing;
Challenges:
Cannot own land, lease land from gov't for 20 years


Central African Republic: Sango, French
Major Issues:
Disease/ extremely high AIDS infection level
Violence in the north, active warfare
extreme malnutrition in the warfare zone.
Need for civilian refuge- possibility for city of refuge? need for distributed, armed, defensive shelters.
Need for vaccinations, many preventable illnesses
